MY THERESE Blank has been appointed chair of Shipping Australia, succeeding Clint Evans as he steps down.

Ms Blank, Maersk’s head of market for Oceania, has served on the Shipping Australia board since joining as director in January 2022.

She will take the helm on 1 January 2025, joined by Phillip Holmes, general manager at “K” Line (Australia), who has been appointed deputy chair.

Mr Holmes was appointed a director of the SAL board in December 2023.

Ms Blank and Mr Holmes are to serve in their new roles for a standard fixed two-year term (from 1 January).

The announcement follows SAL’s 2024 annual general meeting last week. SAL noted a schedule rotation of the senior leadership positions on the board is part of its standard procedure.

Shipping Australia CEO Melwyn Noronha congratulated Ms Blank and Mr Holmes on their election and appointment.

“On behalf of all the staff and volunteers at Shipping Australia, we wish them both good luck and best wishes in their appointments,” Captain Noronha said.

“We will look forward to working with them to ensure that their terms in office are a success.”

Shipping Australia also thanked outgoing chair Mr Evans for his two years of service.
