MEXICAN marines said they found 7200 bottles of liquid methamphetamine in a shipping container bound for Australia.
According to international media reports, the bottles of clear liquid were labelled as containing mezcal.
The marines, who were working customs duty, found the shipment on a Liberian-flagged vessel at the Port of Manzanillo.
There has been at least one previous instance of Mexican criminals attempting to smuggle methamphetamine in liquid form in shipping containers to Australia.
In October last year, Authorities discovered a haul of 1.8 tonnes of liquid methamphetamine concealed in cartons labelled as coconut water, packed in a shipping container.
Officers in Mexico alerted AFP officers in Hong Kong about the suspicious consignment. It was intercepted in Hong Kong.
