DCN is particularly sad to report the recent death of Bass Strait shipping veteran Dale Emmerton.

The follow message was sent by Maritime Industry Australia Ltd CEO Angela Gillham and is used with her permission.

It is with a great deal of sadness that MIAL passes on the news that long time industry member Dale Emmerton has passed away unexpectedly while holidaying in Queensland recently.

Dale’s daughter, Sarah, requested that industry people known to Dale be advised of his passing. Many member representatives will have come into contact with Dale given his long-term association with SeaRoad Shipping and its predecessor organisations where he held a variety of roles before retiring to enjoy a quieter life while still maintaining interest and involvement in a range of Australian maritime industry ventures.

He will also be known to many as the long-time Chair of the MIAL Maritime Workforce Forum and in its previous guises and will be fondly remembered for his passion for and commitment to the Australian shipping industry, even braving appearances before parliamentary committees to advocate for Australian vessel operators. His contribution to championing positive policy changes was considerable, and certainly the MIAL secretariat is grateful for his support of MIAL advocacy and preparedness to provide frank, fearless and welcome advice on a range of matters relevant to the industry.

When details of any memorial arrangements are available MIAL will circulate.

Dale will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with Dale’s family and friends at this time.
