THE MARITIME Union of Australia (MUA)’s Western Australia branch has announced it has recently held meetings with a number of its members who are employed by Qube to discuss the Enterprise Agreement (EA) currently being negotiated between the MUA and Qube.
Yesterday (10 April) saw MUA WA branch bulk and general organiser Paul Brett meet with the MUA’s Qube-employed membership in Bunbury, the last of the MUA’s Qube EA explanation meetings, which have been held over the past three weeks across 18 ports Australia wide.
The union said there was a good turnout of Bunbury’s Qube members to hear the full explanation of the outcomes of the recently negotiated Qube EA.
“As with every other meeting across the country, there was unanimous agreement that this new EA at Qube provides the best outcomes we have seen in any of the agreements we have negotiated with this company over many years,” the MUA WA branch wrote in a post on Facebook.
“Members at Qube in Bunbury unanimously endorsed putting the agreement for vote and have expressed their desire to get this new agreement in place as soon as possible.”
DCN spoke to Qube regarding the posts: “We welcome the endorsement of the Bunbury EA and the successful votes at other ports around the country,” a Qube spokesman said.
“The agreements achieved with the union earlier this year deliver additional flexibilities that will strengthen the competitiveness of our business and deliver value for customers and our employees.”
Below are the key outcomes the MUA said the agreement delivers:
- Total increase of nearly 24% compounded in the remuneration alone through the 4 years with 11.5% of that coming by July 1st this year
- An extra 1% in super with super to remain ahead of any increases in the employer statutory contributions – super moves to 13% at July 1 this year
- Allowances increased in line with wage increases
- Fixing many of the fatigue issues
- D&A Swab testing regime
- Extra Closed Port Days
- Full provision of labour review data and work orders/allocations
