THE PORT OF MELBOURNE has released its Draft 2055 Port Development Strategy (Draft 2055 PDS) and opened it for public feedback, ahead of the publication of the final version in December this year.

PoM says Draft 2055 PDS has been developed in accordance with the requirements of Part 6B of the Port Management Act 1995 (Vic) and the Ministerial Guidelines for Port Development Strategies (the Ministerial Guidelines).

It sets out a proposed port development vision for the future development of the port for the next 30 years (from 2025 to 2055) and supersedes 2050 PDS. It responds to the anticipated changes from growing trade needs and changing service requirements, providing strategies for developing the port’s capacity and efficiency that are underpinned by an adaptable and responsive planning framework, PoM says.

“The purpose of this Draft 2055 PDS is to present stakeholders with an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed port development strategy. The Draft brings together several years of work and we recognise there are many different views on how to develop such a critical asset.

“We will publish a Final 2055 PDS after considering our stakeholders’ further input and feedback on this Draft 2055 PDS.”

PoM is undertaking wide-ranging stakeholder engagement to develop the 2055 PDS and to assist stakeholders to prepare a submission and provide feedback on the Draft, the company is conducting a series of briefing sessions: “At these sessions, we will provide an overview of what we have heard from stakeholders to date, our Draft 2055 PDS, and key changes from our 2050 PDS,” PoM head of planning, Andrew Varga, said.
