2024 Sponsor
THE environment has been a strong point of focus for the maritime industry in recent years. Global, shipping and trade is under pressure to adjust its practices to be in line with environmental regulations, in an effort to reduce the negative impacts from industry on ecosystems.
Lowering carbon emissions, avoiding pollution, and preserving marine and land environments are important challenges for shipping and freight companies to tackle, but more and more companies are adjusting their practices to be environmentally conscious.
The Environmental Award acknowledges the implementation of operating systems or company policies that lead to sustainable outcomes, which reduce marine pollution and contribute to protection of the natural environment with regard to the movement of freight.
Zilch Forwarding won the award in 2023, describing it as a significant moment for the company.
“It not only validated our commitment to true decarbonisation within logistics but also highlighted that our work is making a meaningful impact across the industry,” Michael Blake from Zilch Forwarding said.
“Transport accounts for a substantial percentage of global emissions (and growing), making decarbonisation efforts more critical than ever.
“This recognition underscored the importance of maintaining transparency, integrity, and innovation in a field where environmental responsibility is becoming critical.”
The sponsor for the award this year is CSL Australia. The company’s commitment to this cause resonates deeply with the values of the Environmental Award, which not only emphasises the need for shipping companies to prioritise eco-friendly practices, but also encourages and supports the broader maritime logistics community in doing the same.
“As the largest dry bulk shipowner operating a fleet of 12 vessels on the Australian coast, CSL are strong supporters of the Australian maritime industry,” a company spokesperson said.
“Our environmental focus is part of the CSL culture and stems from managing our shipping operations in unique environments around the world, from the Great Lakes in Canada to the Great Barrier Reef here in Australia.
“As sponsors of the Environmental Award, we wish to encourage other maritime industry participants to do what they can to minimise these impacts and protect the Australian coast.”
