WESTERN Australia is hosting a so-called trade mission this week to create new export and investment opportunities for the state’s producers.
The WA government, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA and Austrade are promoting the state’s produce to 25 international food buyers.
The state government said the visiting buyers represent markets in China, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The week-long program began on Monday (27 March). It aims to connect visitors with local agribusinesses, share food and beverages and offer insight into their provenance and quality.
Agriculture and food minister Jackie Jarvis said there is strong demand from WA agribusinesses to reconnect to international markets post-Covid.
“Western Australian produce is sought after for its high quality and variety, grown in one of the world’s most diverse agricultural production areas,” she said.
“Taste WA and the inbound Indonesian delegation provide WA producers with the opportunity to connect directly with buyers to increase awareness of and demand for their products and develop business relationships.”
Regional development minister Don Punch said buyers are sampling food produced in Margaret River, Southern Forest regions and Albany.
“Buyers will attend producer site visits, paddock to plate dining experiences and undertake business matching events with WA producers, alongside visits to a selection of outstanding tourism attractions,” he said.
