VICTORIA International Container Terminal (VICT) has reached a milestone five million TEU handled since commencing operations at Melbourne’s Webb Dock in 2017.
VICT is owned and operated by International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), which says the milestone solidifies the terminal’s position as a key player in Australia’s ever-evolving logistics landscape.
The company has been active in pursuing growth through strategic infrastructure investment, including the recent terminal expansion, which saw VICT’s capacity increased by 30% to 1.25 million TEU, enabling handling of larger vessels and catering to the growing demand.
ICTSI has also previously invested in next-generation technology aiming to improve operational efficiency, including the acquisition of new automated stacking cranes and super post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes that further streamlined operations, and achieved faster turnaround times for vessels and trucks, the company said.
VICT CEO Bruno Porchietto said of the milestone, “Since opening our doors at Webb Dock in 2017, VICT has been dedicated to continuous improvement, investing heavily in innovative technology, the highest safety and sustainability standards, and the well-being of our valued staff”.
“Reaching five million TEUs is a testament to this unwavering commitment and a significant accomplishment for the entire VICT team,” he added.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff for their dedication and hard work”.
Along with the milestone, ICTSI said VICT was committed to sustainable practices and aligning with the company’s environmental stewardship goals, by actively implementing environmentally friendly technologies and fostering a culture of responsible resource management.
ICTSI is headquartered in Manila, Philippines, where it was established in 1988, in the business of port development, management, and operations.
The company has a portfolio of terminals and projects located across the globe. The company says it is independent with no shipping or consignee-related interests.
Workers at the terminal celebrated the five million TEU milestone with an all-Australian barbecue followed by a photo next to the container marking the five millionth TEU.
