FUELTECH group SulNOx has added an Indonesian patent to those it already holds for the US, Europe, Eurasia, Georgia, South Africa, Hong Kong and China.
The patent covers a range of versions of SulNOx conditioners which emulsify water, while increasing lubricity and oxygen availability to fuel, making it burn cleanly and more efficiently helping industry reduce emissions, lower fuel costs, and meet sustainability targets.
SulNOxEco is now in active trials or discussions with companies representing close to 6,000 vessels.
Indonesia is a global player in mining, estimated by the US government to supply more than a quarter of the world’s mineral supply.
It is also one of the largest maritime countries in the world, with key port cities Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan leading out of more than 2,000 ports throughout its 17,000 island archipelago. Its population of more than 275 million is the world’s fourth largest.
Indonesia is an important market for the UK-listed SulNOx, extending its access to global customers in several sectors including marine, mining, oil and gas, transportation and offshore companies.
Distributor Worldoils Pte Ltd is already working with SulNOx and claims it is generating strong interest from several large Indonesian shipping companies.
CEO of SulNOx, Ben Richardson, said the company had made significant progress in recent shipping trials so far showing consumption reductions of around 5% with operators piloting SulNOxEco conditioner.
“Marfin Management has expanded its trial after initial tests cut bunker consumption by more than 6% and its CEO has since joined the board of SulNOx,” Mr Richardson said. “Greece’s Seanergy and Spring Marine are both looking to adopt SulNOx products in their fleets to reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions.”
