A MULTI-MILLION dollar investment by Agfert Fertilizers has secured a deal with QUBE to import fertilisers through Whyalla Port.

The South Australian fertiliser company is establishing a new fertiliser supply chain across the Eyre Peninsula.

The contract with QUBE involves unloading imported fertiliser from overseas suppliers directly through the Whyalla Port.

A South Australian state government media release said the deal will increase the distribution of fertiliser products directly to farmers across the entire Eyre Peninsula through Agfert’s newly completed distribution facility located at Cowell.

“This expansion is a positive step for Whyalla, with Eyre Peninsula (EP) farmers now viewing Whyalla as an integral link in their supply network,” the media release said.

“The project also supports local employment and revenue streams through the Whyalla Port and involves local EP carriers for freight services, further supporting regional economic benefits.”

A recent milestone in this initiative was the unloading of the MV Pakhoi at the Whyalla Port, delivering SOA fertiliser destined for Cowell’s new distribution facility.

Whyalla City Council CEO Justin Commons said the establishment of the supply chain helped with the diversification of the local economy, created employment opportunities and strengthened regional supply networks.

“We look forward to the long-term benefits this partnership will bring,” Mr Commons said.

According to Chief Officer of Agfert Fertilisers, Tim Gurney, investing in Whyalla was a logical step for Agfert, ensuring it could better serve Eyre Peninsula farmers with efficient, reliable access to high-quality fertiliser.

“The new facility in Cowell and our engagement with local carriers exemplify our dedication to regional growth and sustainability,” Mr Gurney said.
