PILBARA Ports Authority has reported a total throughput of 68.8 million tonnes for May 2024.
The figure is a 10% increase compared with volumes handled in the same month last year.
The Port of Port Hedland saw a monthly throughput of 52.7 million tonnes, of which 51.9 million tonnes was iron ore exports. This was an 8% increase to total throughput compared with May 2023.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 192,000 tonnes, a decrease of 2% compared with May 2023.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 15 million tonnes, a 16% increase from May 2023.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 123,000 tonnes, an increase of 25% from the same month last year.
PPA said several factors influence the fluctuation of throughput, including changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations and proponent needs.
Total throughput across all ports since 1 July 2023 is 687.1 million tonnes.
