THE PORT of Melbourne has released its trade update for January.
Total container throughput at the port in January was 269,044 TEU which was up 4% on last year’s total.
Full container imports (excluding Bass Strait) volumes were up 5.9% in January against the prior year with furniture, metal manufactures, domestic appliances, and paperboard all higher than last January.
But container exports (excluding Bass Strait) volumes were down 6.1% in January compared to last year.
Wheat, cotton, miscellaneous manufactures, and dried milk was below last January’s volumes.
Total empty container movements were up 3% in January against last January’s volumes.
