TENDERS are being called for the next round of development at Pilbara Ports’ Lumsden Point development.

The tenders are for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a materials handling system at Lumsden Point in the port of Port Hedland.

The Australian Government is investing $565 million in common-user port upgrades in the Pilbara, $450 million of which will enable the development of new multi-user facilities and berths at Lumsden Point in partnership with the Western Australian Government, which is contributing $96.6 million to the project.

Two contracts have already been awarded, one to Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd for the design and construction of two land-backed wharves and the second to Konecranes for the supply and construction of two state-of-the-art mobile harbour cranes.

The two new wharves will facilitate the export of critical battery metals, including lithium and copper concentrates, as well as enabling the import of renewable energy infrastructure such as wind turbines and blades.

It will also boost direct shipping services to the Pilbara.

The harbour cranes will be a key part of the Lumsden Point operation, enabling the handling of heavy and oversized materials.

The new tenders are for: an outload conveyor; transfer stations; ship loader; and full supporting infrastructure.

A mandatory tender briefing and site visit will be held on Wednesday 26 March with submissions closing on Monday 28 April.

The tender briefing and site visit are mandatory and tenderers are required to register a maximum of two participants for the site visit. Tenderers will be allowed to attend the mandatory tender briefing online provided at least one of their participants attends the mandatory site visit in person.

An agenda will be distributed to those who register by the deadline.
