THE PORT of Brisbane and Bridgestone Australia have agreed to terms for a 15-year lease on a site which will become Bridgestone’s new distribution centre.
A site over five hectares in size in Stage 2 of the Port West Industrial Estate, a commercial area managed by the Port of Brisbane, will become a new distribution centre for Bridgestone, one of Australia’s leading tyre brands.
An announcement from the Port of Brisbane said Bridgestone’s future distribution centre will support growth and streamline operations in supplying its network of retail and wholesale customers throughout Queensland and northern NSW.
Construction company McNab are the principal contractors for the upcoming facility, and will deliver a 23,340-square-metre warehouse, 350-square-metre dock office, approximately 20,340 square metres of concrete hardstand, and 3786 square metres of carparking area.
The site will see Bridgestone nearly double its current Queensland warehouse footprint, according to PBPL, increasing capacity and operational efficiencies through the introduction of automated guided vehicles.
PBPL CEO Neil Stephens said the new distribution centre will support Bridgestone Australia’s relocation from its existing premises.
“Bridgestone Australia was seeking a turnkey solution that would support its current operations and future growth” Mr Stephens said.
“Not only does Port West fit the brief and provide strong transport connectivity and strategic benefits, but our efficient development assessment processes is enabling our Principal Contractor to mobilise to site quickly.”
Bridgestone Australia & New Zealand head of supply chain Andrew Romano said, “The Port of Brisbane provided Bridgestone with a compelling site for our Queensland distribution needs, streamlining our wharf-to-warehouse logistics and benefitting from being within a major logistics hub.
“As we continue to enhance our business and streamline our processes, we are confident the new Queensland distribution centre will allow us to serve the needs of our customers more efficiently and streamline our distribution in the sunshine state and northern NSW.”
Construction of the new facility has a targeted completion date in mid-2025.
Bridgestone joins home appliance brand Electrolux as the second tenant in Stage 2 of PBPL’s Port West Industrial Estate, with Stage 1 of the estate now fully developed.
Port West is located approximately 6km from the Port of Brisbane’s terminals and wharves, with large and configurable greenfield sites available.
