NORTH Queensland Bulk Ports is installing more than 50 security cameras across the ports of Mackay, Hay Point and Abbot Point following a security review earlier this year.
The port authority is investing more than $1 million to increase security at the ports.
NQBP said the upgrade also follows a “recent increase to Australia’s national security level”, through which NQBP is responsible for associated maritime security obligations.
“Not only will this project boost our security, it will also provide operational efficiencies,” NQBP chief executive officer Brendan Webb said.
Mackay-based contractors CSE Crosscom have been awarded the project.
CSE Crosscom regional manager (Qld) Ben Pollock said the team were excited to deliver the project.
“Supported by our local network of specialist technicians and project managers, CSE Crosscom is proud to work with NQBP on this project to provide comprehensive and sustainable solutions across a large-scale and complex system,” Mr Pollock said.
Also included in the project is upgraded and new cameras for the Port of Mackay’s Southern Breakwater, Mt Bassett Lookout and the Port of Hay Point’s Half Tide public boat ramp.
“NQBP is in a fortunate position of owning several public assets enjoyed by our port communities,” Mr Webb said.
“One of our key priorities is to ensure that locals and visitors can continue to enjoy safe access to these public spaces.
For Mount Bassett Drive, vehicle and pedestrian access will be restricted on 21 and 22 November.
For the Southern Breakwater, access will be restricted on 19 and 20 November, with pedestrian/cyclist access available outside of working hours.
Works are expected to be completed by early 2025.
