ROAD transport company Lindsay Australia has bought Western Australia’s G.J. Freight, giving it a springboard into the South West horticultural market.
In a notice to the Australia Stock Exchange Lindsay announced that a sale agreement was executed this month to acquire the assets and staff of G.J. Freight, an integrated logistics and packaging business, from 1 April.
The report says the acquisition will provide a platform to establish rural operations in WA.
The report says G.J. Freight is a well-established, complementary business operating across six sites in South West WA.
It currently generates more than $20 million in annual revenue.
The move will allow Lindsay to diversify and expand into what it says is a sizeable and growing SW horticultural market, with highly respected and experienced operators.
It will also provide Lindsay with the ability to grow an integrated intra-state transport offering that connects to the Lindsay national network (road and rail) via Lindsays Perth operations.
G.J. Freight was created as a family business by the Stewart family in 1992 with two eight-tonne trucks, initially to provide a transport service for Visy Board Pty Ltd from Donnybrook into the lower South West and Margaret River area with occasional trips to O’Connor in Perth.
It expanded in the following years to provide transport of general freight for other customers.
It acquired GTS Transport in 2005 and now handles fresh produce, wine and general cartage out of Donnybrook and the surrounding areas.
It has also recently expanded its North West and Mining divisions providing services to larger companies across Western Australia.
It has a fleet of more than 60 trucks and trailers.
It has a Perth depot and a major storage and packing facility at Argyle, just outside Donnybrook, with controlled atmosphere and cool storage for growers, wine storage for wineries and general dry storage.
