SVITZER Australia has announced the appointment of a new regional chief people officer and the departure of its general manager – West.

James Comer has joined Svitzer Australia as its regional CPO. Mr Comer commenced with the business this week, bringing more than 20 years of HR experience into the role.

He has previously worked with companies such as Cisco Technologies and Hewlett Packard and, according to Svitzer, is “renowned for his passion for creating high-performing, supportive workplaces”.

Meanwhile Tully Barnes, Svitzer Australia’s general manager – West, is preparing to retire after a decade of service across multiple leadership roles.

Mr Barnes’ tenure with the business will end on 28 March 2025, as he takes up a new opportunity with a port authority.

Svitzer Australia managing director Videlina Georgieva said a search process is now underway for the vacant GM – West position.

“We are excited about the future and look forward to the positive impact James will have on our team,” Ms Georgieva said.

“At the same time, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Tully for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” she said.
