INBOUND Connect has announced that its vehicle booking system (VBS) will be introduced by LINX Cargo Care Group and Qube Ports at Darwin’s East Arm Wharf.

Effective 2 December this year, timeslot bookings via Inbound Connect will be mandatory, in order to enhance efficiency, safety and compliance outcomes at the terminals.

The company listed three primary reasons that the VBS system is being introduced;

  1. To ensure that Cargo Handlers, stevedores, and Darwin Port remain compliant with Australian Border Force regulations and security requirements.
  2. To improve the overall operations and to provide a more efficient service for clients and the transport operators, including faster and more reliable truck turnaround times.
  3. To provide accurate, real-time vessel schedule and availability information to clients and transport operators online.

Inbound Connect said the decision was made “in consultation” with the Australian Border Force, Darwin Port, and all stevedores.

Operationally, it means transport operators will be required to make a timeslot booking with Inbound Connect for every pick-up (import) or drop-off (export), with one timeslot booking required for each container, or one booking per truck for non-containerised freight.

Inbound Connect said, “This collaboration will unlock greater efficiency, safety and compliance for Darwin Port and its operators, as well as greater visibility and certainty for all port users”.

“In particular, Inbound Connect’s technology will ensure greater compliance with Australian Border Force regulations for Darwin Port, LINX Cargo Care Group and Qube.”

The announcement follows the news in August that saw Inbound Connect partner with Qube New Zealand to introduce Inbound Connect’s VBS at Qube New Zealand’s empty container depots across the country.
