CARGO throughput at Gladstone Port totalled 8.08 million tonnes in February 2025, according to the latest available trade statistics from the port. This was down 15% on January’s figures and down 16% on the same period last year.
Throughout the month, the port handled 6.39 million tonnes of exports. These were dominated by coal (4 million tonnes), LNG (1.8 million tonnes) and alumina (396,023 tonnes). China was the destination for 22% of all exports, closely followed by South Korea (21%) and Japan (18%).

Imports for the port totalled close to 1.7 million tonnes in February, the majority of which was bauxite (1.3 million tonnes). Caustic soda was the next largest (208,488 tonnes), followed by petroleum products (81,730 tonnes). Australian ports accounted for 78% of all the port’s imports. China was the origin port for 9% of imports while South Korea accounted for 6%.
There were 130 vessel visits to Gladstone throughout the month, with 93 of these visits being export vessels. Of this, 45 vessels handled coal exports.
