EMIRATES has launched its third non-stop Melbourne-Dubai service, marking the debut of Emirates’ newly four- class retrofit Boeing 777-300ER to Australia.

The launch means Emirates can expand its offering, facilitating the trade of ever-important goods between Melbourne and the rest of the world through Emirates SkyCargo.

The addition of the Boeing 777-300ER will offer 105 tonnes per week between Melbourne and Dubai, bringing Emirates SkyCargo’s capacity to 315 tonnes per week between Melbourne and Dubai across its three daily services.

Emirates said SkyCargo is able to cater to two-thirds of the world’s population in just eight hours, with Dubai providing a strategic location for the transportation of goods including pharmaceuticals, food and other perishables, e-commerce goods as well as machinery and other equipment.

The airline highlighted the recently signed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which it says paves the way for increased trade between the UAE and Australia.

Emirates believes it is positioned to contribute to this growth through its high-capacity, multi-vertical, world-class cargo operations that can facilitate and accelerate the flow of goods between the two nations.

The global airline said it has the ability to carry more than 2350 tonnes of cargo in and out of Australia every week, and said it has been deeply committed to Australia for nearly three decades with its investment in the country going “well beyond the flights” it operates.

Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport said, “We’re proud to have been Emirates’ first Australian destination and we’re proud that Emirates continues to invest in Melbourne with another Australian first”.

Dean Cleaver, regional sales manager at Emirates said, “Melbourne holds a special place in Emirates’ heart, being the first city where we began our Australian journey nearly three decades ago”.
