DP WORLD Melbourne’s West Swanson terminal will exceed operational capacity in the coming days, the Container Transport Alliance Australia says.
Today’s (5 June) advisory from CTAA detailed that truck turnaround times are in some cases exceeding four hours, as more than a third of landside capacity at the terminal remains unavailable for operations due to redevelopment.
DP World has confirmed they will exceed their operational capacity in the coming days as the Kings Birthday weekend nears, CTAA says.
“The volume of cargo for vessels cutting off and available will exceed the road capacity on multiple shifts,” DP World stated in a message to transport operators on 4 June.
The terminal attributed a vessel bottleneck as part cause of the congestion, “particularly considering 2 x A3N service vessels (ANL) are calling within 24hrs of one another rather than the scheduled 7 days apart”.
DP World has also warned transport operators that the terminal will not be able to accommodate preferred slotting times for “the vast majority of the (landside) industry”.
“Demand for preferred operational times will far outstrip what can be supplied and full use of every zone that the terminal is open will be required,” DP World stated.
Just last week the CTAA released bulletin detailing “extreme congestion” that the terminal was suffering.
