CYCLONE Zelia, changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations and customer needs are blamed for a 6% drop in monthly output at Pilbara Ports compared to February 2024.
The total throughput for February was 49.5 million tonnes.
Cyclone Zelia forced a shutdown on Wednesday, 12 February for the port of Port Hedland, and Dampier and Varanus Island were shut down on Thursday, 13 February.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a throughput of 37.5 Mt in February, of which 37.3 Mt was iron ore exports. This was 5% down on total throughput compared to February 2024.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 183,000 tonnes, an increase of 16% compared to February 2024.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 10 Mt, an 18% decrease from February 2024.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 93,000 tonnes, a 26% decrease from February 2024.
Total throughput across all ports since 1 July 2024 is 497.5 Mt.
