THE PORTS of Albany, Bunbury and Esperance re offering the public a rare glimpse of their operations by boat.

The free community boat tours are the first time Southern Ports in Western Australia has run the tours.

They will be held over two days – on Friday 2 May and Saturday 3 May 2025 – providing passengers with a rare glimpse of port operations from the water, while also learning about the ports and the products they trade from Southern Ports staff on board.

Southern Ports Acting Chief Executive Officer Rob Alexander said the importance of the ports to the regions often goes unnoticed given the restricted nature of port operations.

“Despite most of our work being ‘behind the gates’ and out of sight to the public, we’re very proud of our contribution to our regional and state economies and are excited to share our passion for what we do with our communities,” Mr Alexander said.

“We’re lucky to work in such a unique environment, not only the scale of our operations but the size of our infrastructure and the vessels that visit, and we’re hoping these tours provide people with a new perspective of our ports.”

The tours are free, but Southern Ports is seeking gold coin donations on the day, with all proceeds going to Foodbank.

“We’re hoping to raise additional funds for our partner Foodbank which provides food security for many people across our regions – so while these tours are free, we’re asking guests to donate generously to Foodbank on the day,” Mr Alexander added.

The 45-minute tours will run from 9am to 4.45pm on both days.  Spots are limited and the free tickets must be booked online via the Southern Ports website at southernports.com.au
