THE AUSTRALASIAN Institute of Marine Surveyors has partnered with WISTA Australia to encourage stronger participation of women in marine surveying.
The partnership is a first for the two associations as WISTA Australia continues to forge partnerships with other industry organisations. The local branch of the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association amended its constitution to allow for such partnerships.
Professional development, inclusion initiatives, events and advocacy are on the agenda for both organisations.
WISTA Australia president and chair Donna Jones said the partnership would help create a more diverse, resilient and innovative marine surveying sector in Australia.
“This collaboration aims to foster talent development and professional excellence within the maritime industry,” Ms Jones said.
“Both organisations are committed to building a sustainable and inclusive maritime sector driven by innovation, equity and sound leadership.”
And AIMS chair Eric McIlwain said the collaboration was an opportunity to engage industry and encourage more women in the maritime sector to consider a career as a marine surveyor.
“AIMS supports a focus on encouraging women in the maritime sector to seriously consider a career pathway as a marine surveyor,” he said.
AIMS and WISTA Australia have outlined several partnership priorities, including joint initiatives to increase inclusion in the industry, collaborative training programs and mentorship opportunities, networking events, sponsorship, campaigns and publications to promote diversity.
Both organisations have made commitments to support and promote each other’s events and provide resources for shared initiatives.
