The Australian Border Force (ABF) has welcomed its new Commissioner Gavan Reynolds AO at an official ceremony in Canberra yesterday (10 November).

The official ceremony, held at the ABF Headquarters, saw the Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke, lead an affirmation to swear-in Mr Reynolds as the third Commissioner of the ABF.

The Minister led the official party, which included Department of Home Affairs Secretary Stephanie Foster, who were also joined by ABF officers from all ranks, to witness the significant occasion.

During the ceremony, the incoming Commissioner swore an affirmation to uphold the standards of professionalism and conduct required of all ABF officers, and to uphold the powers and authority entrusted to him as the ABF Commissioner and Comptroller-General of Customs.

Mr Reynolds joins the ABF with more than 40 years of service to Australia, during which he held key leadership positions at strategic and operational posts, as well as most recently being the Australian Defence Force’s inaugural Chief of Defence Intelligence.

On his new appointment, Mr Reynolds said, “Throughout my life I have admired and appreciated the work of the Australian Border Force in the stewardship of the national asset that is our border. I look forward to joining the team in that mission”.

“For a number of years, I have had the privilege to work alongside the people of the ABF, and it always struck me their high level of passion, dedication, tradecraft, and pride in the work they perform.

“It is a privilege to be part of this team and the Australian Border Force.”

Mr Reynolds will replace former ABF Commissioner Michael Outram in the position, who retired.
