AUSTRALIAN Amalgamated Terminals (AAT) has today (18 October) announced the arrival of its new Liebherr LPS 550 rail-mounted portal crane, onboard MV UHL Fable.

AAT, which operates out of Brisbane’s Fisherman Island, said the crane is fully assembled, and will be commissioned by Liebherr over the ensuing two to three weeks.

The terminal, which encompasses berths 1-3 at Fisherman Island, expects the crane to be fully operational for early November.

AAT says that once the new crane has been commissioned, it will have two identical LPS 550 rail mounted slewing cranes, with 144 tonne capacity each, and one Pacific 2000 ship-to-shore crane on the quay line to service vessels at the terminal.

“The addition of this new crane will provide AAT with greater capabilities to deploy shore-based cranes to help improve vessel productivity and reduce vessel dwell times alongside at our facility,” AAT said in a statement.

The arrival of the new Liebherr portal crane was preceded by the decommission and removal of the Deer Park ship-to-shore crane, which was completed in August.

The Deer Park crane had been in operation for 40 years, according to the terminal.
