THE contribution of Captain Nigel Porteous to the Melbourne Mission to Seafarers has been praised.
As was reported in the DCN earlier this week, Captain Porteous was this week among those to receive Australia Day honours (the OAM).
“Nobody has merited his country’s recognition for service to the community of seafarers more than Nigel Porteous,” said Melbourne Mission chair Neil Edwards.
“Without Nigel’s generous, creative and indefatigable efforts over so many years, Melbourne’s welcome to seafarers would be immeasurably poorer,” he said.
“Indeed, without Nigel, the Mission itself may not be here today. Nigel is the heart and soul of the Mission, and we are very proud of all he has achieved.”
Nigel Porteous was also “highly commended” in the Seafarers Welfare category of the 2019 DCN Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards.
