NSW Ports has been awarded Silver Partner status from Sustainability Advantage in recognition of its environmental achievements and decarbonisation efforts.
Sustainability Advantage is a business support initiative of the NSW government’s Office of Energy and Climate Change.
Its partner status system aims to recognise organisations that embed sustainability in their everyday practices.
NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said status as a Silver Partner recognises the company’s leadership role in driving sustainable outcomes.
“Sustainability is essential not only to our business, but to the success of the industries and communities with which we work,” she said.
“Our silver partnership recognises the work we have done to date and our ongoing commitment to sustainable outcomes with employees, suppliers, customers, stakeholders and the wider industry.”
Ms Calfas said the company has planning and management systems in place to support sustainable practices and a commitment to a process of continuous improvement.
“We all have an important role to play in actively working toward a better future for the environment, the economy and our society.”
NSW Ports’ targets of net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and use of 100% renewable electricity are outlined in its sustainability strategy, released in September this year.
The company also has a stated commitment to work with customers across its port precincts to develop and implement their own decarbonisation roadmaps.
NSW Ports said it has also been undertaking climate change risk assessments; promoting sustainability goals with staff and external stakeholders; and establishing transparent mechanisms to measure energy, waste and water usage.
