STELLA Maris Mackay has welcomed a new bus into its fleet with support from North Queensland Bulk Ports.

The Mackay branch of the charity has completed more than 2000 crew movements so far this financial year, according to NQBP. It said 120 of those movements were for medical treatment.

The addition of the new 22-seater bus is expected to help Stella Maris volunteers to increase their transportation offerings.

NQBP acting CEO Belinda Kenny said the corporation is one of the many organisations that contributed funds towards the purchase of the new bus.

She said the support and commitment of the port’s people, partners, customers and port communities contribute to the port’s role in the state’s economy.

“Our longest and strongest strategic partnership is the one forged with Stella Maris Seafarers Centre and we sincerely thank them for their dedication to the port industry,” Ms Kenny said.

“We are pleased to see the new addition to their fleet, ensuring seafarers will have access to everything they need while visiting our port communities.”

Stella Maris centre manager Pauline Harris said she is proud of her volunteers’ work behind the scenes.

“The ports operate 24/7, and so do our volunteers, coming and going in all hours of the day and night,” she said.

“Our bus drivers connect the seafarers with our centre, providing them with a home away from home.”
