MISSION to Seafarers Sydney is hosting its inaugural Fundraising Luncheon at NSW Parliament House next month.
MtS Sydney chair Peter Janssen said the event would be an opportunity to connect and reconnect with industry leaders and friendly faces from the port community.
“Over 70 people have already booked. Joining them will show your support for the hard-working Seafarers who help to secure our island nation’s prosperity and improve their future.”
The event will feature a keynote address from Australian Maritime Safety Authority CEO Mick Kinley, who will share insight on what the future may hold after the challenges of COVID-19 lockdowns.
“Most seafarers are still unable to enjoy shore leave or to return to their family and friends,” Mr Janssen said.
“Mission to Seafarers continues to serve about 10,000 seafarers when they visit Sydney each year, but with over 400,000 seafarers including those from cruise vessels arriving annually, there is enormous potential to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to many more.”
Mr Janssen invited industry to support the mission’s work in supporting seafarers’ health and safety, which is integral to the success of the maritime industry.
The event will be held at noon on Friday 8 July, featuring a two-course meal and matching wines. Early bird discounted tickets will be available for $99 per person until 17 June, and will then be $119 per person until bookings close on 1 July.
Board member Greg Bondar, who is organising the luncheon, said tax deductible sponsorship packages are still available for firms who want to show support for seafarers during challenging circumstances.
“The luncheon is an open invitation for the maritime and port community to pay tribute to the resilience of seafarers by supporting the welfare work of Mission to Seafarers in Sydney,” Mr Bondar said.
MtS Sydney thanked the event sponsors so far, including Gulf Agency Company (Australia).
