LINX this week welcomed the inaugural cohort to its traineeship program, Linx FastTrax.
The program provides structured, on-the-job training and mentoring for those eager to enter the freight and logistics sector.
Upon completing the two-year program, participants will receive a nationally recognised Certificate III or IV in either driving operations, supply chain operations or business administration. They will be guaranteed a full-time role with the business.
Linx East Coast General Manager of Operations Sally Eagleton said the program was about attracting the next generation of industry specialists, which is crucial to not only the ongoing success of Linx but the entire industry
“It’s no secret that there is a shortage of skilled labour across industries and across the nation. Freight and logistics is not immune to this challenge and we’ve seen the strain the supply chain has been under over the last couple of years. These challenges have reaffirmed our view that we need to do more to showcase the opportunities this sector can provide because the work, and skills required, is diverse and exciting,” Ms Eagleton said.
“In our eyes, this intake of four driven individuals is just the start. We see FastTrax as a terrific example of how we can encourage and support people, from all walks of life, to build the foundations for a long and prosperous career, and in turn create a diverse and future-proof workforce.”
Founding FastTrax member Talor Hollis from the Newcastle suburb of Shortland is one of the new starters and previously worked in the beauty and personal care industry.
Ms Hollis had originally applied for a place in the program to pursue a business administration certificate but chose supply chain operations instead.
“I hadn’t thought about a career in logistics previously, it’s not like anything I have ever done before,” she said.
“Linx FastTrax has given me the chance to have a big career change and now that I am here, I just love it. It’s so interesting and challenging.”
James Whipper is another and has started his supply chain operations traineeship after a career in sales. Mr Whipper said FastTrax gave him the perfect mix of what he was looking for in a career.
“I enjoy working with people and coming up with solutions to problems, this traineeship is giving me the chance to grow my career in an industry that is complex, interesting and challenging,” Mr Whipper said.
Linx said it is exploring how the program can be tailored and delivered into additional regions it operates in across Australia to support other industries including plantation forestry logistics.
