WORKERS at two LNG complexes have given notice of industrial action, which will start next week.
According to reports, the two sites, Wheatstone and Gorgon, account for 5% of global LNG production capacity.
The Offshore Alliance – which includes the Australian Maritime Union and the Australian Workers’ Union – has said its members would take industrial action from 7 September in an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions.
In a statement released earlier this week, Chevron said it would take steps to maintain safe and reliable operations in the event of a disruption at the facilities.
“While we don’t believe that industrial action is necessary for agreement to be reached, we recognise employees have the right to take protected industrial action,” the company said.
According to media reports on the situation, the industrial action would progressively increase in severity after it begins on Thursday next week.
