FOOTAGE on YouTube captures the lead-up and impact of a collision between two ships on the Welland Canal, a stretch of water in Ontario, Canada, linking Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
The incident happened on the weekend and involved the general cargo ship Alanis and the bulker Florence Spirit.
Both can be seen slowly advancing toward each other before colliding.
Local media agency CBC reported that officials were investigating but that there had been no injuries and there had been no environmental impact.
CBC reported that Alanis was carrying wind turbine parts and the Florence Spirit was carrying coal.
