A KEEL laying ceremony was held in Finland for the second of the two new Spirits of Tasmania.

The ceremony was held at the RMC shipyard last week. Recently minted Australian and Finnish coins were placed in the keel of Spirit of Tasmania V before the first block was lowered into position.

The coins are meant to symbolise good fortune for the builders and all those who sail on the vessel.

TT Line managing director and CEO Bernard Dwyer said he was pleased to see the milestone being reached.

“The keel laying for Spirit of Tasmania V means we are another step closer to our second brand new ship reaching Tasmanian waters,” he said.

“This is such an exciting project and it’s incredible to see our vision for our ships becoming a reality.”

Construction began on Spirit of Tasmania V in December last year. The keel was laid on its sister ship, Spirit of Tasmania IV, in October 2022.

Both vessels are scheduled to be launched next year.
