WOODSIDE Energy has awarded towage operator Svitzer Australia the 12-year contract for towage and pilot transfer services at Woodside’s LNG export operations at the Port of Dampier.
The contract is to start at the end of 2023.
Under the contract, Svitzer is to provide five 80-tonne bollard-pull tugs. Svitzer will also deploy one new pilot-transfer vessel, which will be built in Western Australia.
Svitzer Australia managing director Nicolaj Noes said the towage company would work with Woodside to reduce emissions from tug operations by incorporating the latest proven new technologies over the term of the contract.
“It is a key priority for Svitzer to contribute positively to the local communities where we operate,” Mr Noes said.
“A key outcome of the tender will be the commissioning of a new pilot transfer vessel to be built in WA. and providing a tailored training and professional development package for a WA-based workforce.”
