PILBARA ports handled a total of 63.1 million tonnes of cargo over September, according to the latest figures from the Pilbara Ports Authority.
The figure is the largest total throughput since July and it is a 3% increase on September 2020’s total throughput. It is also a 5% increase on August’s total throughput at the ports.
Port Hedland accounted for 47.9 million tonnes of the total, of which 47.3 million tonnes were iron ore exports. This was a 4% increase to total throughput compared with September 2020.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 140,000 tonnes, a decrease of 14% compared to September 2020.
The Port of Dampier’s total throughput for last month came to 14.6 million tonnes, a 1% increase from September 2020.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 80,000 tonnes, a decrease of 1% from September 2020.
The 2020-21 financial year saw the Pilbara Port Authority break records for throughput. It handled a total of 724.7 million tonnes for the 12 months through June 2021. The ports have seen a year-on-year increase of 14% over the past five years.
