A VIDEO documenting the lives of seafarers has been posted on YouTube by Port Authority of New South Wales.
The video, posted on International Day of the Seafarer, quotes marine pilot Michael Kelly who talks about the conditions faced by many sailors today.
Michael Kelly talks about how many seafarers “just put up with [difficult conditions]” and often do stints of 10-months at a time at sea and with limited communication.
The video also talks about how PA NSW is working with agencies to improve the lot of the many mariners who come to Australia.
Also quoted is Sister Mary Leahy of Stellas Maris who talks about supporting seafarers, including via care packages.
