AN LNG-fuelled tugboat in Japan has completed its final bunkering before being converted to run on ammonia.
NYK Group’s Shin-Nippon Kaiyosha operates the tugboat Sakigake in Tokyo Bay.
The tug is fuelled by LNG but has conducted its last bunkering at Yokohama pier before the conversion process begins in the 2023 fiscal year.
“Sakigake is scheduled to … be re-commissioned the following fiscal year as an ammonia-fuelled tugboat with even lower greenhouse gas emissions,” NYK said.
A ceremony in Yokohama on 25 July commemorated the vessel’s last LNG bunkering.
