TASMANIAN ports are expecting more than 150 cruise ship visits in the 2023-24 cruise season.
TasPorts said its cruise ship itinerary shows 83 visits scheduled for Hobart, 39 visits for Burnie and 23 for Port Arthur.
Another six visits are planned for Coles Bay, two for Bell Bay and two for King Island.
TasPorts said the line-up would bring nearly 117,000 crew and more than 270,000 passengers into Tasmanian waters.
TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said the current cruise ship season will end on 4 April when Noordam calls Hobart. He said focus has now shifted to the coming season.
“The 2023-24 season will start on 20 September with the arrival of the Pacific Adventure at the Port of Hobart,” Mr Donald said.
“We will be welcoming the Disney-owned Disney Wonder for the first time, which has eight calls booked between October 2023 and February 2024.
“Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady will also visit for the first time with 13 calls booked for Hobart (eight) and Burnie (five) between December 2023 and March 2024.”
Mr Donald said TasPorts supports cruise ship visits to the state and the sector’s economic contribution.
“We also actively support the regional dispersal of visitors and the associated benefits they deliver to the state’s regional areas,” he said.
