Pilbara cargo throughput dips

PILBARA Ports Authority reported 62.5 million tonnes of total cargo throughput in March.

This is a 2% decrease on total throughput in March of last year.

Zooming into Port Hedland, we see cargo volumes were roughly equal to those of March 2020. The port reported a throughput of 47.4 million tonnes for March 2021. Of this, 46.7 million tonnes was iron ore.

Imports through Port Hedland increased by 12% over March last year to 180,000 tonnes.

Moving on to Port of Dampier, PPA reported a total throughput of 14.2 million tonnes last month, a decrease of 8% from March 2020.

Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 114,000 tonnes, an increase of 69 per cent from March 2020.
