A TOTAL monthly throughput of 58.8m tonnes for the month of April has been recorded by Pilbara Ports Authority.
This represented a 1% decrease when compared with the same month in 2018.
Total throughput for the 2018/19 financial year to date is 569.3m tonnes, a decrease of 1% from the same time last year.
Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 42.5m tonnes, of which 41.8m was iron ore exports.
This monthly throughput was a 3% fall from April last year.
Imports through Port Hedland totalled 166,000 tonnes, up 43% from the same month in 2018.
Port of Dampier delivered a total monthly throughput of 15.4m tonnes, an increase of 2% from April 2018.
Imports through Dampier totalled 85,000 tonnes, a fall of 34% from the same month in 2018.
PPA trade figures are heavily dependent upon iron ore exports, mostly to China. International media agency Reuters recently reported that for the first four months of 2019, China imported 340.2m tonnes of iron ore (based on customs data), down 3.7% from 353.3m tonnes in the same period last year.
