FIVE new rubber-tyred gantry cranes arrived onboard MV Chipol Taihu at the DP World Australia Sydney terminal on Friday.
The Kalmar RTGs were discharged on arrival and arrived fully assembled and pre-tested.
In a statement, DP World Australia said the new machines would complement its existing fleet of 11 Kalmar RTGs already in service.
The stevedore said, with a total investment of $15 million, the RTGs were part of the ongoing renewal program to boost efficiency at DP World’s terminals.
“The five new machines are configured to provide greater fuel economy and lower emissions, with 40% more fuel efficiency, in addition to enhanced design and safety features,” DP World said.
An additional five RTGs are scheduled for arrival at the Sydney terminal in 2023.
DP World Australia CEO Andrew Adam said: “The latest addition of five Kalmar RTGs contributes to DP World’s ongoing upgrades across our Australian portfolio to drive further productivity improvements and support additional capacity at our Sydney terminal”.
