OPERATIONS were suspended on Wednesday at Meidong Container Terminal at Ningbo Zhoushan Port after a worker tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement, Hapag-Lloyd said with the sudden shutdown, delays in planned sailings are expected.
“Please know that we are working on alternatives, and hope for your understanding on a matter that is beyond our control,” Hapag-Lloyd’s statement said.
“Our thoughts are with the teams working at the Meidong Container Terminal in Ningbo, and please know that we will update as soon as more details are made available.”
CMA CGM issued a statement saying cargo operations on its two vessels that are alongside at the port have been put on hold until the port reopens.
Ningbo-Zhoushan is one of the busiest box ports in the world. It came in at number three on the Lloyd’s List Top 100 Ports list in 2020. Its throughput in 2019 was 27.5 million TEU, up 4.5% on the year before.
