KEY local government figures from City of Port Phillip, Victoria, recently had a tour of Station Pier at the Port of Melbourne.
Mayor Dick Gross, and Lili Rosic, general manager, city strategy and sustainable development were on hand to see the cruise ship Carnival Legend at berth and enjoyed a waterside view from the Harbour Master’s boat, MV Lonsdale.
Station Pier is managed by Victorian Ports Corporation and the boat tour was led by its chief executive, Rachel Johnson, harbour master Captain Roy Stanbrook and Melissa Read, VPCM community stakeholder engagement manager.
“We were delighted to give the Mayor and Lili Rosic a tour of the port and especially Station Pier. The boat trip was a great way to show the pier operations and to explain the many activities involved,” Rachel Johnson said.
The boat trip was followed by a visit to the VPCM Port Operations Control Centre in Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne.
There, the visitors saw the port from the control tower and met VPCM officers who manage the safe navigation of ships in Melbourne port waters.
“This was an excellent opportunity to see firsthand this iconic port in action,” Cr Gross said.
“We look forward to working with VicPorts and the State Government as we enhance the Waterfront precinct for our community and build an internationally renowned gateway for our great city.”
