PORT of Adelaide saw a year-on-year decrease in container throughput in August, according to the latest available statistics from Flinders Ports.
Adelaide handled a total of 24,863 TEU of full containers this past August. This was a decrease of 10.4% on the same month last year.
However, full container throughput inched up last month when compared with the previous month. August’s throughput was 2.6% higher than that of July 2023.
Both imports and exports saw year-on-year decreases last month. In August 2023, the port handled 14,134 TEU in full import containers and 10,729 TEU in full export containers. This was a year-on-year decrease of 7% and 14.5%, respectively.
Last month, there were 23 containership visits to Port of Adelaide, the same number as August 2022. However, there were just 16 containership visits in July 2023.
The port handled fewer empty containers in August 2023 than in the previous month or the same month last year.
Last month, a total of 5873 TEU of empty containers passed through the port, a decrease of 23.7% on the same month last year (7695 TEU), and a decrease of 19.4% on July 2023 (7287 TEU).
