PORT Botany saw a busy month this past December, with more container throughput than the previous month and the same month last year.
Total container trade through Port Botany over December 2018 came to 233,993 TEU – an increase of 6% on the previous month (220,315 TEU), and a 5% increase on December 2017’s total container throughput (222,304 TEU).
This past December’s volumes of full imports were up by 2% on the previous year to 114,131 TEU, and according to NSW Ports, this rise was led by increases in miscellaneous manufactured articles (up 13% to 28,333 TEU in December 2018); food preparations (up 12% to 8141 TEU); and beverages, wines and spirits (up 10% to 2900 TEU).
Export full volumes were up 21.5% to 42,115 TEU for December 2018.
There were 97 container vessel visits over this past December (four more than December 2017), with the largest numbers falling in the 4000-5000 TEU and 5000-6000 TEU ranges (153 visits and 166 visits, respectively).
At 573,007 revenue tonnes, December’s non-containerised trade through Port Botany was up 3% on the previous month, but down 12% on December 2017.
