ON Friday, Port Botany broke a record with MSC Tokyo becoming the containership with the deepest draught to visit the port.
The vessel has a draught of 15.1 metres, beating the previous record of 14.8 metres that MSC Asya set in October.
According to Patrick Terminals, MSC Tokyo is now the deepest draft container vessel to arrive at any Australian port.
Patrick Terminals CEO Michael Jovicic, said, “Patrick Terminals was delighted to welcome the MSC Tokyo on the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Australia Express service from Europe onto Port Botany’s premium deepwater berth at our Patrick Sydney Terminal.
“The arrival of the MSC Tokyo showcases Patrick Terminals’ robust capability to handle big vessels utilising the largest cranes in Australia.”
MSC Tokyo is due to depart Monday evening on schedule and bound for Patrick’s Melbourne terminal.
