PACIFIC National has appointed Brett Grehan as its next chief executive officer, succeeding outgoing CEO Paul Scurrah.

Mr Grehan’s appointment was announced on 6 November, following “an extensive global search” by PacNat after Mr Scurrah in May revealed his plans to step down.

Mr Grehan’s new role at PacNat follows his tenure as CEO of Linx Cargo Care Group, prior to which he served as a senior partner at consulting firm McKinsey.

Catherine Livingstone, independent chair of the PacNat board, said Mr Grehan’s leadership, experiences and vision align with the rail freight operator’s values and approach.

“He is very well positioned to lead Pacific National to continue to deliver for our people, customers and shareholders,” Ms Livingstone said.

“As CEO of Linx Cargo Care Group he successfully drove operational improvements, strengthened safety initiatives, and focused on customer-centred innovation to deliver significant transformation, with a large workforce spread across Australia and New Zealand,” she said.

“During his career, he has built a reputation for his extensive work in the freight rail sector and other industries with complex logistics networks.

“His experience will be instrumental as Pacific National continues to build on its position as a leader in the freight and logistics industry.”

Mr Grehan described PacNat as a critical contributor to the Australian economy.

“It is a privilege to join the team and to have the opportunity to contribute to decarbonising the Australian supply chain, to safely delivering for our customers, and to support the broader Australian communities in which we operate,” he said.

Mr Grehan will officially step into the role on Monday 11 November 2024.

PacNat said following a “comprehensive handover process” Mr Scurrah would continue to be available to Mr Grehan and the board in a transition capacity.

Ms Livingstone, on behalf of the board, thanked Mr Scurrah for his leadership and dedication over the past four years.

“Under Paul’s guidance our business has evolved strongly, and he should be particularly proud of ushering in the ‘Pacific National approach’ and values, as well as his commitment to customer service and safety as a top priority,” she said.
