OCEAN NETWORK EXPRESS has introduced a brand new ship to its weekly AU1 service between South East Asia and Australia, operated in partnership with ANL, Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk.

The 74,063 GT, 7264 TEU ONE Reliability phased into the service at Laem Chabang on 11 November and arrived in Melbourne for its first Australian port call yesterday afternoon (3 December) to berth at Patrick’s East Swanson terminal. The ship is resplendent in ONE’s distinctive colour scheme – officially known as magenta – and only the second seen in the company livery after ONE Commitment made one trip in December 2019.

(The appearance of a pink-hulled ship in Australian waters will take old-timers back to the Cecilia Batistello-inspired, 1,599 TEU Contship Germany, which served Contship Container Lines (later absorbed into CP Ships) in the Europe-Australia trade for several years from late 1992.)

ONE Reliability is the sixth of ten sisters ordered for long-term charter to ONE by tonnage provider Seaspan Corporation (in which ONE is now a major shareholder) from Chinese builder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard and was delivered on 7 May.

Alphaliner list the ship as 272.00 m long and 42.80 m (17 rows) wide and fitted with a MAN 6G80ME-C10.5 main engine that delivers 28,260 kW for a speed of 21 knots. There are 1,200 reefer plugs. It is also the 28th example of the SDARI Sealion 7000 type, which comes in a number of variants.

Last month ONE and Seaspan also formed a joint company, OneSea Solutions Pte Ltd to focus on providing technical ship management and maritime talent development. Headquartered in Singapore, ONESEA will offer technical ship management services for container vessels owned by ONE and vessels chartered by ONE from vessel owners, the partners say.

At this stage ONE Reliability is listed for only one voyage in AU1.

Separately, Ocean Network Express has announced that, as of 1 January 2025, South Pacific Shipping (Vanuatu) Ltd. will become ONE’s exclusive representative in Vanuatu. To ensure a seamless transition, current representatives Tropical Agency Ltd will continue to provide services until the end of December.
