MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Company’s landside transport and logistics arm MEDLOG has continued its rapid expansion in Australia, launching a second empty container park in the port of Melbourne.
The 65,000 sq m facility adjoins the Victoria International Container Terminal at Webb Dock and was previously leased to ACFS, which occupied the site from 2019. DCN understands the deal with MEDLOG was part of VICT’s successful bid for MSC’s total stevedoring business in the port, which has contributed to the ICTSI-owned company securing 38% market share, the largest in the port, in 2024.
MEDLOG said it was excited to announce the opening of the additional ECP, which complements the company’s existing park in Footscray, “strengthening our capacity to meet the growing demands of the Melbourne logistics and shipping industry”. The Webb Dock park features an Automated Truck OCR system.
“At MEDLOG, our focus remains on enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and customer support. This expansion is a testament to our commitment to delivering faster turnaround times, optimised container management, and seamless operations to support our valued customers’ needs.
“We are proud to be an integral part of the Melbourne logistics ecosystem and look forward to collaborating with our partners to shape the future of global trade,” MEDLOG said.
2024 was another busy year for the Australian arm of the company, which has been growing exponentially through acquisition and organic development.
Last month MEDLOG’s Port Beach, North Fremantle facility was officially accredited as an Export Approved Establishment (Arrangement number 3407) and earlier the same month began offering biosecurity inspections, including tailgate, cleaning and fumigation services at the same site site.
In April 2024 MEDLOG acquired LINX Regional Logistics from Brookfield, to add linehaul and rail in the Riverina Region, specialising in the transportation of agricultural products from farm to port and stores.
Currently located in over 80 countries, MEDLOG says it has carried over 5.2 million TEU globally via its flexible multimodal transportation solutions and inland storage services. Originally established over 30 years ago, MEDLOG first entered the Australian market in 2018.
